Indigenously built aircraft carrier INS ‘Vikrant’ has become completely ready. Vice Admiral SN Ghormade, Vice Chief of the Navy has given this information. He said the commissioning of INS ‘Vikrant’ will help in ensuring peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region. INS ‘Vikrant’ will be inducted into the Navy on September 2 at an event in Kochi and will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said the induction of the aircraft carrier into service would be an “unforgettable” day as the vessel would significantly enhance the country’s overall maritime capabilities. Vice Admiral Ghormade said the induction of INS ‘Vikrant’ into the Navy would be a historic occasion and would also be a symbol of ‘national unity’ as its components came from several states and union territories.
INS Vikrant built at a cost of 20 thousand crores
The aircraft carrier, built at a cost of around Rs 20,000 crore, successfully completed the fourth and final phase of sea trials last month. With the creation of ‘Vikrant’, India has joined a select group of countries that have the capability to indigenously design and build an aircraft carrier.
Know the specialty of INS Vikrant
India’s largest indigenous warship INS Vikrant has a cable length of about 2,500 km. INS Vikrant is 262 meters in length, 62 meters in width and 59 meters in height. The flight deck of Vikrant is equal to two football fields, from where the planes will fly. The speed of this warship is 28 knots and also has the capability to travel up to 7,500 nautical miles. The aircraft carrier has eight power generators capable of lighting the entire city of Kochi. One round of the corridors of this aircraft carrier sits equal to eight kilometers. 2,300 compartments have been made in this warship, which can accommodate 1,700 personnel.
