President Oath Ceremony: The Opposition alleged that Mallikarjun Kharge was not seated in the seat befitting his position at the President’s swearing-in ceremony.

Mallikarjun Kharge Seat Controversy: Draupadi Murmu was sworn in as the 15th President of India in the Central Hall of Parliament on Monday. However, the function sparked controversy and the opposition parties handed over a letter to the Rajya Sabha Speaker accusing him of disrespecting Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge. The Congress and several other opposition parties on Monday claimed that Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge was seated in a seat that was not befitting the dignity of his post at the swearing-in ceremony of President Droupadi Murmu.

He also wrote to Rajya Sabha Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu claiming that he was surprised and protested against the deliberate disrespect of a senior leader. Sharing the letter on Twitter, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said several opposition parties including Congress and Trinamool Congress had written to Speaker M Venkaiah Naidu.

Controversy over Mallikarjun Kharge’s seat

“Mallikarjun Kharge was seated in a seat which is not befitting the dignity of his post at the swearing-in ceremony of the President today. We write to express our protest against this insult shown to the senior leader,” the parties said in the letter are.”

Draupadi Murmu took oath of office and secrecy as the country’s 15th President in the Central Chamber of Parliament on Monday. Chief Justice of India N.K. V.S. Raman administered the oath of office to him as President. Droupadi Murmu is the youngest President of India at the age of 64. He is also the first post-independence-born personality to become President.
